Bhawanipatna: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Bhakta Charan Das has indicated that he will be fighting his last electoral battle this time in Odisha.
Addressing a public meeting at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district, the Congress leader said that he has done a lot of work for the area and would do much more if he gets elected in the upcoming elections.
Stating that he would serve the people with dedication if they give him a chance this time, Das said in all probability this is going to be his last poll battle.
With the twin elections fast approaching, there are speculations that Das may contest from Narla Assembly constituency this time instead of seeking election from Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat.
Das, who is the Congress screening committee chairman in eight states, was accorded a rousing welcome by the local Congress workers when he reached Kalahandi on Wednesday.
Speaking at the meeting, the former Union Minister said that Rs 272 crore had been sanctioned for the development of Sunabeda Sanctuary during the erstwhile Congress government.
Similarly, district headquarters hospital as well as four Central Schools at Nuapada, Khariar, Bhawanipatna and Dharamgarh were set up during Congress rule, he said, adding that all villages in the area were connected through concrete roads and provided with electricity supply.
Das had the Lok Sabha election held in 2009 from Kalahandi constituency defeating Subash Chandra Nayak of Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
