New Delhi: The farmer leaders seem determined to continue fighting for scrapping of the controversial farm laws. The leaders said that 20 farmers have died so far while protesting against the draconian laws introduced by the Centre.
December 20 has been declared as the day of mourning, the leaders announced from the Singhu border on Tuesday. “Homage will be paid to the martyrs in every village,” a farmer leader was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi supporting the new farm laws and blaming the opposition parties for “instigating” and “misleading” the farmers, the farmers have hardened their stance. They are determined to “make” the government repeal the laws.
“The government is saying ‘we won’t repeal these laws’. We are saying we will make you do it. The fight has reached a stage where we are determined to win no matter what,” farmer leader Jagjeet Dallewal told the journalists at Singhu border on Tuesday.
“We are not running away from negotiation, but the government has to pay heed to our demands and come forward with concrete proposals,” he added.
