Bhubaneswar: Only a handful of cricketers from Odisha have featured in the 15 editions of Indian Premier League (IPL), the world’s most popular and lucrative T20 league.
Haladhar Das, Biplab Samantaray and, most recently, Subhranshu Senapati are found berths in IPL franchises over the years. So did Pragyan Ojha and Abhishek Raut, but they represented other states during those years.
With another IPL auction round the corner, a clutch of Odisha cricketers will be trying their luck.
As many as 16 players, including the state’s prolific batsman Subhranshu who was picked by Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023, have registered for the IPL 2024 mini-auction that will take place in Dubai on December 19 — first time in IPL history that the auction is being held outside India.
The others include prolific medium-pacer Debabrata Pradhan, senior batter Govinda Poddar and allrounder Prayash Singh.
The base price for all Odisha players is Rs 20 lakh, according to an Odisha Cricket Association press release.
