Bhubaneswar: With ‘very poor’ air quality index (AQI), Angul town of Odisha was found to be the most polluted urban area in the country by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Thursday.
The air quality in Angul, located in the coal belt of the state, was categorised by the CPCB as ‘very poor’ with an AQI value of 305 at 4 pm on Thursday.
As per the AQI data released by the CPCB, Angul town turned out to be the only urban area in the country with ‘very poor’ air quality.
The data showed that the air quality in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata was much better than Angul.
The air quality in Delhi and Mumbai was categorised as ‘moderate’ with AQI value of 161 and 131 respectively.
Similarly, the air quality in Chennai was categorised as ‘satisfactory’ with AQI value of 93, while in Kolkata it was found to be ‘moderate’ with AQI value of 111 by the CPCB.
