Balikuda: A woman and her four-year-old daughter were killed and her father-in-law sustained critical injuries after being run over by a speeding truck in Balikuda area of Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday.
The mishap took place near Chasapada under Balikuda block when the three were proceeding towards Jagatsinghpur hospital and the truck dashed against their two-wheeler.
While the woman, identified as Kalima Bibi and her daughter died on the spot, her father-in-law Sheikh Mukhtar, who was driving the scooter, was critically injured.
Mukhtar, who hails from Mirmahala village under Tirtol area of the district, was admitted to hospital at Jagatsinghpur for treatement.
Angry over the incident, locals staged a road blockade in the area demanding adequate compensation to the family of the deceased.
A team of police personnel reached the site and seized the truck besides sending the bodies for postmortem. Further details are awaited.
