Woman Abducted From Odisha’s Bhadrak Rescued; Truck Driver Arrested

Bhadrak: A woman, who was allegedly abducted by a truck driver from Odisha’s Bhadrak district two days ago, has been rescued safely by the police from Keonjhar.

The accused truck driver has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the woman, stated to be mentally challenged, from near Charampa Reserve Police Line in Bhadrak late on Thursday. Police took him into custody from Jhumpura area of Keonjhar district.

The shocking incident was captured on CCTV cameras, which showed the driver forcibly lifting and carrying the woman away. The incident sparked widespread outrage after the visual went viral.

People from different spheres raised questions over security arrangements in the area.
Police said the woman was rescued following swift action, and the accused was taken into custody for interrogation.

As per preliminary findings, the woman does not appear to be in a stable mental condition. A case has been registered, and the Truck Drivers’ Association is also being questioned in connection with the incident, said a senior police official.

The incident has triggered concern among residents, who demanded stepped up patrolling and enhanced security measures, particularly in sensitive zones, to prevent recurrence of such crimes.
