Puri: Two persons, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly duping two girl students of Rs 20,000 each at Astaranga in Puri district on the pretext of providing jobs in Bhubaneswar.
The arrested were identified as Dibya Bharati Jena (28) and her associate Soumya Ranjan Sahani. They were later sent to Nimapara Sub-Jail in the district.
The accused had collected the original certificates and money from the two college students of Balidiha village in Astaranga assuring them employment in the Odisha capital. After the woman did not receive their phone calls despite several attempts to establish contact with her, the family members of the victims lodged a complaint at Lingaraj police station in Bhubaneswar. Following this, the cops informed the Astaranga police about the incident.
Based on the complaint, police conducted raids at different places in Bhubaneswar and managed to nab the woman and her associate.
“The duo used to collect huge amount of money and educational certificates from students by promising them of employment in Bhubaneswar. Both are being interrogated to ascertain whether other persons are involved in the case,” Astaranga police station inspector-in-charge Sumati Kumari Mohanty informed.
