Balasore: Police arrested a woman on Sunday for allegedly murdering her daughter through a contract killer in the district.

According to police sources, the woman, identified as Sukanti Jena of Nagram village under Sadar police station, had regular fights with her 36-year-old daughter Sibani Nayak for the latter’s involvement in illicit liquor trade. Though married, Sibani was staying with her parents for the last 11 years and carrying on the illegal work despite her mother’s objection.

Two months back, Sukanti hired the contract killer, Pramod Jena to eliminate Sibani for Rs 50,000. She also gave Rs 8,000 as advance to Pramod, who works as a driver. Sibani had known Pramod as she had hired him to go to different places.

As per the plan, Pramod took Sibani to an isolated place on the pretext of some work and with the help of his two accomplices, killed her on January 12. They dumped her body in the river, said Sadar SDPO Pravash Chandra Pal. Later, Sibani’s body was found from under a bridge near Nagram village.

Apart from Sukanti, Sadar Police have arrested Pramod. A manhunt has been launched to trace two other accused who are absconding, said Pal.
