Mumbai: A woman who allegedly attacked Team India cricketer Prithvi Shaw’s car was arrested by Oshiwara Police here on Thursday.
In a late-night incident on February 15, a scuffle broke out between Shaw and Sapna Gill and her friends over a selfie with the cricketer, India Today reported.
After initially posing for selfie, Shaw turned down a further request to pose with the group inside a restaurant where the cricketer had gone to dine with a friend.
Shaw reportedly had Gill and her friends evicted from the 5-star hotel.
Police had booked eight people for attacking the car of Shaw’s friend Ashish Surendra Yadav.
According to Ashish’s complaint, Shaw’s car was first attacked with baseball bats, before the accused followed the other car and threatened to file false cases if he didn’t give them money.
Gill, on the other hand, accused Shaw and his friend of physically abusing her outside the 5-star hotel. Gill went on to allege that Shaw had a stick in his hand when he and his friend assaulted the woman.
Gill’s lawyer Ali Kashif Khan said police were not allowing her to go for medical tests.
“Sapna was assaulted by Prithvi. There was a stick was seen in Prithvi’s hand. Prithvi’s friends assaulted the group first. Sapna is currently at Oshiwara police station. The police are not allowing her to go for medical,” Kashif said.
No cross FIR has been filed by the accused yet. Gill will be produced in court on Friday.
Prithvi was recalled to the Indian squad for last month’s T20 International series against New Zealand, but did not get to play any of the three games. He is not part of the squad for the ongoing Test series against Australia.
