Bhubaneswar: A woman was arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Saturday over allegations of duping people with false promises of employment in Odisha capital.
The accused, identified as Sureshwari Jena, was apprehended by a team from Khandagiri Police station at her hometown in Keonjhar district. She was arrested after a case was filed against her for allegedly taking Rs 25 lakh to provide jobs among multiple complaints against her fraudule
nt activities.
According to police sources, Jena allegedly lured several job seekers by assuring them of placements in government and private sectors. The investigation revealed that she had been operating under the guise of a successful businesswoman and social worker cheating gullible job seekers for years.
Once the case was registered, Jena approached the Orissa High Court seeking an anticipatory bail but the court denied it.
Acting on specific intelligence, Khandagiri Police coordinated with Keonjhar authorities to track her down and execute the arrest. Officials stated that evidence, including forged documents and transaction records, has been seized as part of the probe. Police have registered a case of cheating and fraud against Jena and further interrogation is underway to identify possible accomplices and the scale of the racket.
