Bhubaneswar: A woman assistant professor of a private educational institute at Jagamara in Odisha capital has accused her colleague of raping and blackmailing her with obscene videos.
Khandagiri police registered a case under Sections 376, 506 and 384 of the IPC after Raipur DIG wrote to the Twin City Commissionerate Police about the complaint filed by the woman, who hails from Raipur district in Chhattisgarh, at Karib Nagar police station there.
A team of Khandagiri police will soon leave for Chhattishgarh to probe the incident.
According to sources, the 24-year-old woman joined the institute as an assistant professor in March last year. Umesh Sudhakar, a former assistant professor of the institute, befriended her.
In September 2021, Umesh invited the woman to a hotel at Jagamara, where he offered her a glass of cold drink which was spiked. Once she fell consciousness, Umesh allegedly raped her at the hotel and made a video of the incident.
The accused then started blackmailing the victim and forced her into a physical relationship by threatening to make the clip viral on social media platforms. He also extorted Rs 2 lakh from her in three instalments.
Following death threats from Umesh, she left for home and narrated the ordeal before her parents. She then lodged a complaint with the Kabir Nagar police station on May 24.
