Woman attacked with acid over dowry in Balasore

Balasore: A woman sustained serious burn injuries after her mother-in-law allegedly threw acid on her over dowry at Deula village under Bhogarai police limits in Balasore district on Monday night.
The woman, identified as Namita Sahoo, was rushed to Jaleswarpur hospital and later shifted to Balasore district headquarters hospital.
The victim’s parents have lodged a police complaint, alleging that their daughter was physically and mentally tortured by her husband and mother-in-law for dowry since her marriage four years ago.
According to the complaint, Namita’s husband beat her on Monday following which she asked her parents to lodge a complaint with police. Irked over this, the mother-in-law attacked her with acid. She sustained burn injuries on her stomach and waist.
“Her condition is critical. The matter is under investigation,” a police officer said.
