Kaptipada: A woman was allegedly attacked in Totasahi village under Kaptipada police limits in Mayurbhanj district over suspicion of practising sorcery.
The accused persons have been identified as Bharat Murmu and Shyam Prasad Murmu.
According to sources, Bharat’s son has been suffering from fever. Though his son was on medication, no sign of improvement was witnessed. Then he took his son to a sorcerer.
Later it was found that his son has reportedly fallen prey to witchcraft. In a fit of rage, the duo attacked the woman on suspicion of practicing sorcery. The locals rushed to rescue of the woman.
Later, the woman lodged a complaint in Kaptipada police station.
Despite the implementation of the Orissa Prevention of Witch-Hunting, Act, 2013, that entails penalty and punishment for practising and abetting sorcery, this practice still continues.
