Woman Attempts Self-Immolation For Police Inaction To Trace Her Missing Daughter In Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A woman attempted to commit self-immolation alleging police inaction to trace her missing daughter in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Friday.

According to sources, the woman, identified as Manjita Rout, had filed a complaint at Keonjhar police station stating that her minor daughter had gone missing on June 2. She also drew the attention of disitrct collector and SP in this regard at a grievance meeting later.

Manjita told the media persons that a history-sheeter of the area had told her over phone that he had kidnapped her daughter and demanded money to release her. He had also told her that if she did not pay the ransom, he would engaged her daughter in flesh trade, she alleged.

Though she had given the information about the kidnapper and ransom demand, the police did not take any action. She had been running to the police station everyday to enquire about her daughter, but no step was taken to trace her, she added.

Frustrated by police inaction, Manjita poured kerosene on her in front of the SP office in the town and was going to set herself on fire when police prevented her from taking the extreme step. The police have detained her and making enquiries.
