Baripada: A woman allegedly attempted self-immolation after her husband did not allow her to visit her parents in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
As per reports, the incident took place in Tentulibadi village under Kaptipada police limits in the district on Sunday. Chandramani Singh, the wife of Muna Singh of the village, told her husband that she wanted to go to her parents’ house on the occasion of Biswakarma Puja in the morning.
But Muna expressed his unwillingness on the ground that he did not have enough money for the purpose and left the house on some work. While Chandramani was alone in the house, she poured kerosene on herself and set fire.
As she screamed due to the fire and smoke came out of the house, her neighbour rushed to the house. On finding the door, he called other villagers. They broke open the door and extinguished the fire.
They rushed Chandramani to the community health centre (CHC) at Udala. She sustained around 70% burn injuries in the incident, the hospital sources said.
On being informed, police have registered a case and started investigation.
