Baripada: An elderly woman was allegedly beaten to death by her daughter-in-law over family dispute in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
According to sources, the incident took place in Podadiha village under Chandua police limits of the district. The victim, Sephali Kar, was engaged in an argument over some petty matter with her daughter-in-law Sangeeta Kar on Friday. Sephali’s son Soumitra Kar was not present in the house at the time.
As the argument escalated, Sangeeta beat up her mother-in-law and pushed her in a fit of rage. Sephali sustained critical injuries as she fell down. On hearing her cry, the villagers rushed to the house and informed Soumitra.
They rushed the injured Sephali to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRMMCH) in Baripada. As her condition deteriorated, Sephali was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack on Sunday. But she succumbed on the way.
