Baripada: A woman was allegedly thrashed and forced to wear a garland of shoes by a group of villagers at Nuadihi village in Mayurbhanj district.

Though the incident took place on Thursday, the matter came to the fore after a video clip on the same went viral.

According to available information, a minor girl of Nuadihi village in the district was allegedly abducted by a youth of nearby Ranibhola village following which the girl’s mother had lodged a complaint at Sadar police station.

However, the villagers alleged that the block chairman was supporting the youth who had kidnapped the girl and asked her family members to marry their daughter with the accused.

When the woman came to the village to discuss the matter, the victim’s mother and some other women beat her up severely and later forced her to wear a garland of shoes.

Meanwhile, both the groups lodged complaints against each other at Sadar police station.

“A complaint has been lodged by the block chairman. The opposite party has also filed a counter complaint. Investigation into the matter is underway,” Sadar police station inspector-in-charge Swarnalata Mince informed.
