Dhenkanal: The husband and mother-in-law of a woman have been arrested for allegedly torturing and branding her with hot iron at a village in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.
The victim, identified as Rashmita Behera of Latadeipur village under Bhuban area of Dhenkanal district, had got married to Digvijay of Kharabela village in Jagatsinghpur, sources said.
The woman alleged that her in-laws used to torture and assault her physically, demanding more dowry from her family since her marriage.
It was alleged that Rashmita was grievously injured after being branded with hot iron by her husband and mother-in-law in June. After getting information about the brutal act, Rashmita’s family had rushed her to a hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, they lodged a complaint at the Bhuban Police station against her in-laws.
After investigation and interrogation of several people, the police have arrested the Rashmita’s husband and mother-in-law.
