Woman Burnt Alive As House Catches Fire In Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: A married woman was burnt alive inside her house in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday.

According to sources, the woman was identified as Jayanti Barik of Kudamansingh village under Baliapal police limits in the district. She was staying with her husband in their thatched house built outside the village.

Some villagers found her house on fire in the afternoon and rushed to extinguish it. By the time, they could arrange water, the fire had engulfed the entire house. In no time, the house was razed to the ground.

On being informed, a team from Baliapal police station came to the village and recovered the charred body of Jayanti from the ashes of the house. They sent it for post-mortem and registered a case.

The police also launched a search for Jayanti’s husband as the villagers could not say anything regarding his whereabout. They were investigating to ascertain whether the fire was started accidentally or somebody had set the house on fire.
