Jajpur/Balasore: A woman was burnt to death and four houses were gutted in two separate fire incidents in the state late Saturday night.
In one incident that took place in Srirampur village under Mangalpur police limits of Jajpur district, a 36-year-old woman died as her house caught fire while she was sleeping inside.
According to sources, the neighbour of the woman, identified as Madhusmita Nayak, saw the house on fire at around 2 am. As the house was locked from inside, it took them some time to bring out Madhusmita and her two-year-old daughter.
The villagers rushed both Madhusmita and her daughter to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctor declared her dead. Fortunately, her daughter survived, the sources said.
In the second incident in Gopinathpur village under Soro block of Balasore district, four houses were razed. The fire started from one house and spread to neighbouring houses.
By the time the Fire Brigade reached, four houses were completely damaged. However, there were no casualties.
