Cuttack: A woman was burnt to death as her house caught fire in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Tuesday.
As per reports, fire broke out in the thatched house of Ranjan Mahanta in Haradhapal village under Tangi-Choudwar block in the district in the afternoon. Ranjan’s wife Puspalata Mahanta, who was inside the house at the time, got trapped and could not come out as the fire engulfed the entire structure.
The villagers rushed to the house and tried to douse the fire by pouring water from buckets and other containers. They made all possible efforts to save 28-year-old Puspalata from the inferno but could not enter the house.
On being informed, Fire Brigade reached the village and doused the fire. Later, they retrieved Puspalata’s charred remains from inside the house. All 8 rooms in the house were totally destroyed in the fire which is suspected to have been caused by short circuit in electricity supply.
A team from Choudwar police station also went to the village and filed a case.
