Balangir: A woman committed suicide by setting herself on fire at Agalpur in Balangir district late on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Bimala Sahu, a resident of Nuapali village in the district.
Bimala was rescued in a critical condition by the neighbours and rushed to Burla hospital in Sambalpur. However, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigations will be conducted only after receiving the report”, a police officer informed.
The local residents of the area said that the woman might have taken the extreme step as she was tired of being harassed and tortured by her in-laws for dowry since long.
