Khurda: A woman was hospitalised after she consumed poison in an attempt to commit suicide during demolition of her house in Odisha’s Khurda district on Saturday.
As per reports, Krushna Chandra Patsani had built a house on government land at Kochiakhal village under Begunia police station long time back. He was staying there with his family.
Two months back, the local administration issued a notice to Patsani for illegal construction on government land. They demolished a portion of his house as his family was staying there.
On Saturday, a team of officials including Begunia tehsildar Tapas Bisi accompanied by police force came to the village and started bringing down the house with bulldozer.
When Patasani and his wife Mita Patsani appealed to the officials not to demolish the house as they would be rendered homeless, the latter told them that they were helpless as it was being done on the Orissa High Court’s order.
Meanwhile, Mita brought a bottle of poison and drank it in front of the demolition squad. The officials rushed her to district headquarters hospital in Khurda. Later, she was shifted to AIIMS at Bhubaneswar as her condition deteriorated.
The tehisldar said they had stopped the demolition of Patsani’s house and would decide next course of action after Mita completely recovers.
