Berhampur: A woman was critically injured after allegedly being shot at by suspected poachers inside a forest in Bhanjanagar area of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per preliminary reports, the woman was hit by a bullet fired by suspected poachers when she had gone into the forest near Bodigoba village under Bhanjanagar police limits.
The woman, identified as Swapna Sahu, was plucking sal leaves inside the forest along with her mother for plate making when a bullet hit her on Saturday evening. She sustained injury on her stomach.
She was rescued by her mother and taken to the village. The injured woman was taken to Bhanjanagar Hospital in an ambulance on Sunday morning. Her condition is now stated to be stable.
It is suspected that poachers might have fired while trying to hunt wild animals inside the forest and a bullet hit the woman.
On being informed, a team of police personnel visited the hospital and spoke to the mother of the victim. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
