Raurkela: A 26-year-old woman sustained critical burn injuries after miscreants allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire while she was asleep inside her house in Odisha’s Raurkela.
According to information, the incident took place at Taratola village under Santoshpur Panchayat in Biisra block of Sundargarh district.
It was claimed that the woman was sleeping inside her house when the attackers allegedly poure
d petrol through window and set fire, causing severe burn injuries late on Friday night.
As she cried for help, locals came out of their houses and noticed flames engulfing the house. They rushed to the spot and rescued the woman. She was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Rourkela for treatment. Hospital sources said the woman has suffered nearly 40% burn injuries and remains in a critical condition.
Following the incident, police officials, along with a scientific investigation team, reached the village and launched a detailed probe. Police have begun collecting forensic evidence from the scene to ascertain the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the attack.
To expedite the investigation, police have constituted three separate teams, which are conducting searches at various locations in and around Rourkela. However, the motive behind the brutal attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made so far.
Police said all possible angles are being examined, and efforts are underway to trace the perpetrators at the earliest.
