Nilgiri (Balasore): A woman was critically injured after two unidentified miscreants allegedly opened fire on her inside her house at Raipal village under Berhampur police limits in Odisha’s Balasore late on Tuesday.
The woman has been identified as Laxmi Murmu.
According to sources, the incident took place between 1 am and 2 am. The woman, aged around 50, received bullet injuries in chest, waist and hand. The family members woke up to the gunshots sound, but could not nab the accused, who managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
Laxmi was taken to hospital at Nilagiri in a critical condition and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. “Laxmi is not out of danger and her condition is still critical,” a doctor said.
On being informed, a team of Berhampur police reached the village on Wednesday and launched a probe into the crime. The exact reason behind the firing is yet to be ascertained
