Baleshwar: A woman sustained grievous injury after her mother-in-law allegedly threw hot oil on her following an altercation at Mathanuagaon village of in Odisha’s Baleshwar district on Saturday.
The injured woman was admitted to a nearby health centre and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak as her condition deteriorated.
According to sources, the incident took place at Mathanuagaon village under the jurisdiction of Khaira police station. An argument reportedly erupted over planting a tree in the backyard, following which the mother-in-law allegedly threw hot oil at the woman in a fit of rage.
The injured woman has been identified as Sweety Sial. She sustained burn injuries to several parts of her body.
Sweety was initially taken to Khaira Community Health Centre (CHC) after the incident. As her health condition deteriorated, she was later shifted to Bhadrak DHH for further treatment.
Following the incident, a team of Khaira police reached the spot and detained the mother-in-law. She was being questioned by police at the time of filing this report.
Police started an investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the alleged assault.
