Nayagarh: In a shocking incident, a woman died after being run over by a speeding bus while waiting at a bus stop at a village in Khandapada area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Monday.
According to sources, the incident took place at Karadapalli village under the jurisdiction of Khandapara police station of the district in the morning.
Angry over the incident, locals blocked the highway and staged a protest by keeping the woman’s body on the road. The villagers demanded adequate compensation to the family of the deceased.
Sources said the woman was waiting to catch a bus at the bus stop when a private passenger bus from Baghamari ran over her after losing balance. The woman reportedly died on the spot after being mowed down by the speeding vehicle.
Angry locals caught hold of the driver and thrashed him. As tension prevailed in the area, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The body was seized and later sent for autopsy. A case has been registered and the driver was detained by the police.
