Balangir: A woman and her daughter were killed after being hit by a speeding car in Patnagarh area of Odisha’s Balangir district on Saturday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place near Ulaba Chhak on Patnagarh-Balangir road under the jurisdiction of Patnagarh police station when the two were returning home after work.
The two, identified as Sarojini Dharua and her daughter Reeti Dharua of Ulaba village, reportedly died on the spot after being hit by the car coming from Balangir.
Angry over the accident, locals staged a demonstration and road blockade demanding adequate compensation to the family of the victims. Police officials visited the site and tried to pacify the protesters.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled the scene after the accident and efforts are on to trace him, sources said.
