Woman, Daughter Hacked To Death Over Family Feud In Odisha Village

Sundargarh: In a shocking incident, a 70-year-old woman and her daughter were allegedly hacked to death at a village in Hemgir area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

Police sources said the incident took place at Badapada village under the jurisdiction of Hemagir police station in the district late on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Bilasini Sui and her 70-year-old mother Rukmini.

After getting information, a local police team visited the village and recovered the bodies found lying in a pool of blood.

Police have detained a suspect Rinku, who is believed to be the nephew of Bilasini. He is being questioned by the police.

Locals said Bilasini, a widow, lived with her younger son, while her mother Rukmini had moved in with her to provide support. The two women had gone to a nearby tube-well to fetch water, leaving the house locked as Bilasini’s son was away. On their way back, they were allegedly attacked by Rinku with an axe.

While the motive for the crime is yet to be ascertained, preliminary probe suggest that a family dispute might have led to the double murder.

Following the attack, the accused allegedly attempted to escape. The Hemagir police, in collaboration with a forensic team, launched a thorough investigation at the scene to gather more information about the circumstances of this disturbing crime.
