Kendrapara: A woman and her daughter were killed while a minor boy and another woman sustained injuries in lightning in Mahakalapada area of Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Monday morning.
As informed by Bijay Parida, Ranger of Mahakalapada Forest Range, four persons including three women and a minor boy of a family of Jambu village were on the way Hukitola confluence for fishing on a small country boat fitted with a motor in the morning.
While on the way, lightning struck the boat killing one woman and her daughter on the spot while the minor boy of about 17-18 years of age and another woman, a relative of the deceased, were injured.
The deceased have been identified as Panti Mandal and her daughter Dipali.
Soon after the incident, some local fishermen rushed to the boat and rescued the two injured, who were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Mahakalapada.
The two injured have been identified as Tarala Mandal, grandson of Panti and her sister-in-law Dasi Mandal.
The other local fishermen who were on the way to the Hukitola confluence returned to their village following the incident.
In another incident, two persons were injured when lightning struck a house at Bibhutipur village under Kakatpur block in Puri district in the morning.
The two injured, identified as Sanju Sahu, wife of Kailash Sahu and her daughter Lopamudra were admitted to the Primary Health Centre (CHC) with minor burn injuries.
