Nabarangpur: In yet another instance of ambulance failure owing to bad road connectivity, a woman delivered a baby boy in the sling she was being carried by her family members to the nearest pick-up point with a polythene cover to shield her from rain.
The woman was identified as Kalabati of Pahnarikumuda village under Umerkote block in Nabarangpur district.
According to reports, the woman complained of labour pain last night following which her family members dialed 108 for ambulance to carry her to hospital. Though the ambulance responded, it could not reach the village due to bad road, which had further worsened due to incessant rainfall. The vehicle remained 4 km away from the village and was unable to proceed ahead.
Some villagers decided to carry the woman in a sling to the ambulance. However, she delivered a baby boy on the way. The woman and the newborn were later taken to Umerlote hospital in the waiting ambulance. Both mother and child are stable, hospital authorities said.
