Cuttack: Two women died and several others were injured in three separate accidents in Cuttack, Nayagarh and Balasore districts in Odisha in the last 24 hours.
In Cuttack, a speeding car rammed into a group of 37 Kanwariya, who were on their way to Siddheswar Mahadev temple at Paikaraput after lifting water from Babujanga ghat, near Tehsil Chhak at Nischintakoili, killing a woman on Sunday night. After hitting the Kanwariyas, the driver of the car lost control over vehicle and collided with a pick-up van, sources said.
The deceased has been identified as Chinmayee Behera of Jinhipur. The two injured in the mishap, Dipti Rout and Purna Chandra Behera, have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.
Police have detained the driver and further investigation is underway.
Another woman died and 10 other were injured as the autorickshaw in which they were travelling overturned near Jakoda under Nuagaon police limits in Nayagarh district on Monday. The injured have been admitted to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital, sources said.
A total of 15 passengers, including the driver, were injured after a passenger bus hit a tree near Putura Chhak under Singla police station limits in Balasore on Monday morning. The accident took place when the bus was en-route to Balasore from Baliapala carrying nearly 30 passengers. The front portion of the bus was totally damaged in the mishap. Locals informed police, which rescued the stuck passengers and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, sources added.
