Woman Dies, 4 Critically Injured In Hit-&-Run After Jatra Outing In Odisha’s Sambalpur



Sambalpur: A woman died and four others were critically injured in a hit-and-run crash near Tainsar under Mahulpalli police station limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district late on Friday.

According to sources, the accident occurred around 9 pm when the nine women were walking

back to their village Kodupada after watching the Dhanu Jatra festival at Tainsar. While one woman died on the spot, others sustained injuries after being hit by the speeding vehicle, which fled the scene soon after the accident.

The injured persons were initially treated at sub-divisional hospital at Kuchinda and four among them were later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla. 


Confirming the death and injuries, Kuchinda sub-collector Sarwanan S said that the accident involved nine women. “While one died on the spot. The condition of four among the remaining eight is stable. The other four, who sustained fractures and head injuries, have been shifted to VIMSAR,” he told reporters.
