Balangir: A woman died while her two minor children escaped narrowly as they jumped from a running train in Odisha’s Balangir district on Friday.
As per reports, the woman, identified as Jharana Mahanand of Jorasinghar in Deogaon block of the district, along with her children was waiting at Balangir station to board a passenger train to go to Titlagarh.
Meanwhile, Deendayal Upaadhyay Visakhapatnam Superfast train arrived at the station and they boarded it. Later, they realised that it was not the train for which they had booked the ticket.
As the Superfast train approached Badamal station, it slowed down. Jharana and her two children tried to get down while the train was in moving condition. Unfortunately, she fell down and hit her head on the platform.
The GRP personnel rushed them to the community health centre at Badamal. But the doctors in the hospital declared Jharana brought dead. Her two children escaped the fall with marginal injuries and their condition was stable, the hospital sources said.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem and informed Jharana’s family about the incident.
