Baripada: An elderly woman died after a truck crashed into her house at a village under Rairangpur area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district early on Saturday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place when the truck rammed into the house at Purunapani village along National Highway 220 under the jurisdiction of Rairangpur police station.
The deceased has been identified as Kamala Patra (65). The debris of the wall fell on Kamala who was asleep when the truck rammed into the house injuring her critically.
The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.
Tension prevailed in the area following the mishap as villagers and kin of the deceased blocked the NH demanding adequate compensation to the bereaved family.
On being informed, Rairangpur Town police officials reached the spot to pacify the protesters. Vehicular movement on the highway was affected due to the protest by villagers.
