Sonepur: An elderly woman was killed and her granddaughter critically injured after a wall of their house collapsed at a village in Lachipur area of Odisha’s Sonepur district.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Saharapali village under the jurisdiction of Lachipur police station in the district in the wee hours of Sunday.
The woman, identified as Surubali Dipa, and her two-year-old granddaughter were sleeping when a mud wall of the house collapsed and fell on them.
While Surubali reportedly died on the spot, the child was rescued and rushed to hospital for treatment. Other members of the family were reported to be safe.
The kutcha wall of the house was stated to have caved in following incessant rain in the area.
