Kendrapada: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed while her husband and son sustained injuries after their scooter was hit by a sand laden truck at Tinimuhana Chhak in Odisha’s Kendrapada on Monday.
The deceased woman has been identified as Shraddhanjali Prusty of Baniamala village.
Sources said the mishap took place when the truck dashed against the scooter, carrying the woman, her husband, and their son. While the woman reportedly died on the spot, her husband and son suffered injuries in the mishap. The couple was reportedly on way to drop their son in a play school.
The driver of the truck fled the scene soon after the incident. Efforts are on to ascertain his identity and trace him.
Angry over the incident, residents of the area staged a demonstration by blocking the road. They demanded immediate action against the truck driver and justice to the family of the deceased woman. The protesters demanded that some restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles engaged in the transportation of sand and other articles could help avoid such mishaps.
On being informed, a police team rushed to the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
