Malkangiri: A woman, allegedly involved in ganja smuggling, died in custody of Excise officials in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Saturday.
According to sources, the woman, Priti Biswas was going in a bus from Balimela in Malkangiri to Jeypore in Koraput district on Friday.
On getting reliable information that Priti was carrying ganja with her, Excise officials intercepted the bus at Kamalapadar under Khairput block of Malkangiri district. During search of the vehicle, the Excise officials found 10 kg of ganja from Priti.
They took Priti to Excise Station at Mathili and locked her up in the haazat. They also questioned her about ganja smuggling and involvement of others in the racket. On Saturday morning, Priti was found dead inside the Excise station.
On being informed, a team from Malkangiri police station went to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. A team headed by an SDPO is investigating the circumstances that led to death of Priti. The cause of her death would be known after getting the post-mortem report, said police sources.
