Bhubaneswar: A woman died and three others were seriously injured when an elephant attacked them near Ramachandi village under Dhaulimuhan panchayat, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, in the early hours of Saturday.
According to sources, four women had gone to the village pond for a bath around 4 am when an elephant suddenly attacked them. While Manjulata Behera of Talasahi died on the spot, the three other women sustained grievous injuries.
Hearing the screams, the villagers rushed to the spot and informed the Forest Department.
Talking to the media, Forester Sidhu Singh said that the three women are undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital in Khurda while the body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem.
He further informed that the efforts are on to drive the elephant into the Chandaka reserve forest.
