Bhubaneswar: A woman, who was married last year and staying with husband at Kalinga Nagar in Bhubaneswar, died under mysterious circumstances after which her family members alleged that she was murdered by her in-laws.

The woman, identified as Sushree Sangita Bastia of NIali area of Cuttack district, had married Praveen  Nayak of Nuagaon in January, 2021 and both were staying in a rented house at Kalinga Nagar in the capital city, according to reports.

While Sushree Sangita was employed as a nurse in a private hospital, Praveen was reportedly working in a packaged drinking water plant.

Before marriage, Praveen’s family had claimed that he was earlier working in a mining company. However later he changed his job.

Sushree’s father and brother said they got a phone call around 11 pm on Monday from her mother-in-law who asked them to immediately reach Bhubaneswar. They were told that Sushree was unwell and was being taken to hospital.

“We were told that my sister had locked her room. When they broke in, they found her unconscious,” claimed Sushree’s brother Biswajit Bastia.

He further alleged that the in-laws had strangled her to death, removed all evidence and then rushed her to the hospital.

The family further alleged that Sushree’s in-laws were pressurising her to work and demanding money from her.

When they reached the hospital  they came to know that Sushree was dead and the body had already been sent for post-mortem, her brother said, adding that his sister was murdered by her in-laws who were trying to suppress the matter.

An FIR has been lodged with the police as the death has occurred in mysterious circumstances, he said, adding, “we want justice.”

The exact cause of death will be established after getting the autopsy report, police said.
