Rourkela: In a shocking incident, a woman employee of the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) allegedly attempted suicide amid claims that she was being harassed at the workplace.
The woman, identified as Saraswati Samanta, reportedly went live on social and spoke about her mental condition before taking the extreme step. After seeing the video, her colleagues rushed to her house. They broke open the door, and rushed her to the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), where her condition is said to be critical.
As per information, Saraswati lost her husband nearly ten years ago while he was on duty. Following his death, she was promised a job on compassionate grounds. Though the woman was engaged in work at the RMC, she was not given a permanent appointment despite repeated requests.
It was alleged that Saraswati had to undergo severe mental stress and workplace harassment, which took a toll on her mental health..
The incident has triggered outrage among her co-workers, who are demanding a thorough probe and action against those responsible for her prolonged mental distress.
