Khurda: In a tragic incident, a woman allegedly ended her life shortly after her husband died reportedly by suicide at a village in Khurda district of Odisha on Sunday.
The incident was reported from Baniatangi village under the jurisdiction of Khurda Sadar Police Station.
According to sources, the woman died by suicide by holding a live electric wire after her husband was found hanging in their house in the afternoon.
While the exact reason behind the extreme step taken by the couple was yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the move was sparked by some family dispute.
The man, identified as Samarendra Senapati, had gone out in the morning and returned home after noon. He reportedly went to his room and bolted the door from inside. Later his body was found hanging in the room. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Unable to bear the death of her husband, the woman, identified as Sunita, allegedly caught hold of a live electric wire. She was electrocuted to death.
On being informed, Khurda Sadar Police reached the spot and started an investigation. The bodies were sent to the Khurda District Headquarter hospital for postmortem.
The team of cops is reportedly interrogating the family members of the deceased couple to ascertain some lead in the case, said sources.
