Bhubaneswar: In an attempt to revive and popularise the local art of the state, Odisha-based entrepreneur Nazia Ali has launched a platform to connect rural artists with the local market here.
The local market, flooded with Chinese products, was a big challenge for Nazia’s startup ‘Lovely ObsessionZ’. Her sole objective was that local products should grab eyeballs. The entrepreneur plunged into the market by pursuing corporates to buy tribal art, Dokra and Pattachitras that are the pride of Odisha, as gift items.
Speaking about the motive behind her startup, Nazia said, “I was particularly upset to see the pathetic condition of the local handicraft artisans who were starving for customers due to lack of proper market. I decided to connect them with the market and use their products as gift items.”
Besides local handicrafts, Lovely ObsessionZ also provides a platform to local bakers and homemakers for selling homemade cookies, cakes, muffins, chocolates etc.
This startup has also introduced the idea of gifting real plants in well-crafted terracotta pots instead of fresh flower bouquets and gift items, which don’t stay for long.
Her venture has been recognised by ‘Startup Odisha’. The entrepreneur, who started this business with her own funds, is now getting a monthly allowance of Rs 20,000 from the state government.
The 36-year old was recently honoured with the Best Woman Entrepreneur award by MSME for lending a helping hand to rural artists of Odisha.
Asked about the future of startups in Odisha, the young entrepreneur said, “The future of startups in the state is quite bright. One must be dedicated towards achieving one’s goal and success will come.”
Nazia’s clients include the Adani group, Indian Oil Corporation and Bhubaneswar Golf Club among others.
Initially, Nazia had started her business in a small shop at Damana Square with the help of family and friends. After some time, she moved to Patiya. The entrepreneur also sells her products online.
