Woman Falls 70 Feet Into River While Taking Selfie In Odisha

Balangir: A young woman fell from a bridge into the Tel River while reportedly taking a selfie near Belgaon on Balangir-Kalahandi border in Odisha on Saturday.

According to information, the mishap took place when three women had gone to visit a Shiva Temple in the area during an outing.

While moving around, one of them stopped on the nearby bridge over Tel River to take a selfie. However, she reportedly lost her balance and fell into the river from a height of around 70 feet.

While the incident left her friends and others frightened, a local youth present near the site immediately tried to rescue her. However, he failed to reach her.

In the meantime, locals informed the fire service and a team from the Saintala rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After considerable effort, the firefighters managed to reach the woman and pull her out of the river safely.

She was immediately taken to the Saintala health centre for medical attention. According to information available, the woman is safe and her condition is stable. The local youth who had attempted to rescue her is also reported to be safe.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with taking selfies at dangerous locations, particularly near bridges, rivers and other elevated spots.
