Puri: A woman foreign tourist was detained by Singhadwar Police after she allegedly sneaked into Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri town on Saturday.
Only Hindus are allowed to offer prayers inside the 12th century shrine.
According to sources, a servitor spotted the foreign tourist, reportedly a Polish national, near Baishipahacha and informed the police, which is currently verifying her identity, VISA and Passport.
She earlier visited India in 2023, Additional SP Sushil Mishra told the media.
Earlier this month, nine Bangladeshi nationals were put under scanner after four among them allegedly entered the shrine, violating the norms under the Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1955.. The foreigners admitted that they were not aware that the guidelines prohibiting entry of non-Hindus.
On January 7, the shrine had witnessed a chaotic scene following the entry of an unidentified woman foreign tourist.
