Woman Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Rampur Basti in Unit 4 of Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Swarnalata Mahanandia, a native of Boudh district.

Her husband Bapi Nayak, detained by police for questioning, claimed that he found her hanging this morning and it was case of death by suicide.

Bapi, who belongs to Nayagarh, shifted to Rampur Basti about three months ago. The couple was living in a rented room. They had got married about a year ago, sources said, adding that they reportedly had an argument two days ago.

“He used to physically assault her but she always hid it from us. I had spoken to her last night,” father of the deceased alleged.

He further claimed that Bapi’s employer was not happy with his conduct. “We suspect that he strangulated her to death,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kharavela Nagar police have sent the body for postmortem and begun an investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which the woman died.
