Bhubaneswar: The body of a woman was found hanging inside her house in Bhubaneswar amid allegation that she died by suicide after being unable to repay loan taken from a self-help group (SHG).
The incident, which took place in Chintamanishwar Jena Colony in Laxmisagar area of Odisha capital, came to light on Tuesday morning. The deceased woman was identified as J K Milan, who reportedly hailed from Banki area in Cuttack district.
According to sources, the woman had taken loan from a SHG, but was unable to repay the amount. It was alleged that there was immense pressure on the woman from the SHG to repay the loan in installments.
Neighbours claimed that the woman was believed to have taken the extreme step due to mental stress caused by debt burden.
A police team rushed to the site after being informed about the incident. The body which was found hanging from the ceiling with a saree was recovered and sent for postmortem. Further investigation is in progress.
