Nayagarh: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by three unidentified persons in front of her fiancee inside a forest in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
Though the incident took place on October 20, it came to light after the survivor lodged a complaint with Fategarh police station on Friday, police said.
Acting swiftly after the complaint was lodged, the police have arrested the three accused persons.
The three have been forwarded to court, a statement issued by the Police State Headquarters at Cuttack said on Saturday,
The incident happened when the woman and her fiancee were returning home after visiting Fategarh Ram Temple in the evening.
“Three unknown persons intercepted the two near Pithakhai forest and forcefully took them into the forest and gang raped the woman while threatening her fiancee with a knife,” news agency PTI quoted Khandapada Sub-divisional Police Officer Bimal Kumar Barik as saying.
“The accused persons recorded the incident on a mobile phone and uploaded the video on social media. It has gone viral on social media,” Barik said.
After registering a case, the police had detained three persons in this connection and interrogated them.
The police subsequently arrested the three accused persons involved in the incident. Further, investigation is underway.
