Baripada: A young woman was allegedly gangraped by five men inside a vehicle after being lured with the promise of a job in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Based on the complaint lodged by the 22-year-old survivor of Bangiriposi area, police have detained two persons and launched a hunt for the others.
As per the complaint, the woman was contacted by two men known to her on Friday evening. Promising to arrange a job in a company, they took her along in a vehicle and drove towards Udala, around 80 km away.
On the way, three others joined the vehicle and the group allegedly diverted the car towards a deserted stretch on Udala-Balasore road. The vehicle was reportedly stopped at a secluded place under the jurisdiction of Udala Police Station and the five men then allegedly took turns to rape the woman.
When the woman resisted and raised an alarm, the accused allegedly threw her out of the vehicle and drove away. The woman was spotted by locals in a distressed condition.
With the help of locals, the woman returned home and narrated the ordeal to her family members, following which they approached the police.
A senior police official said a case has been registered under the relevant sections based on the survivor’s statement. While two suspects have been picked up for questioning, efforts are on to apprehend others. Forensic and medical examinations have been conducted as part of the investigation.
